Madigan: Ameren scheme produced unfair rates for customers

From today's Belleville News "Republican":


"Ameren Illinois customers are paying "grossly unfair" prices for electricity because of collusion and bid-rigging among participants in a power auction that included Ameren's power marketing arm, according to a complaint Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed with federal regulators Thursday."

Every time I hear some right wing nut job talk about how the government needs to just let the free market take care of policing itself, I just want to scream. And they have the nerve to complain about their power bill....

BND Wants Sunshine??

Well, it looks like our own Belleville News "Republican" is calling for transparency in government - by hyping "Sunshine Week". The are encouraging us to really take a look at what our government is doing. They are doing this after years and years of acting as a cheerleader and apoligist for the most secretive republican administration in our nations history. Now, it is all very patriotic to badger local government - so long as they are democrats, I presume.

Mayan priests will purify a sacred archaeological site to eliminate "bad spirits" after President Bush visits next week, an official with close ties to the group said Thursday.
